DISASTER RESPONSE INFORMATION |
Concern about disasters is becoming increasingly relevant as increases in population density, population shifts, and increasing technology make it likely that we will encounter disasters more frequently and that they will be more severe. Conservative estimates suggest, for example, that the dollar losses from disasters in the year 2020 will be double that experienced in 2000. With recent diasters such as Hurricane Katrina, flooding in the central and south portions of the U.S., and the gulf oil spill, these estimates are becoming a startling reality.
One of the key factors in effective disaster response in the widely popular resource Disaster Response: Principles of Preparation and Coordination is Resource Management. Having the resources for cleanup after a disaster is a priority, but a very important factor is obtaining these resources in a quick and timely manner to reduce financial losses as well as loss of lives. |
